There are many areas in Wales with high levels of children in the Child Protection system. As a country, we have a lot of Looked After Children, too.
Our experiences in social services, healthcare and support have shown us that poor parenting is something that can be passed from generation to generation. We want to prevent poor parenting from continuing by breaking the cycle of struggle and replacing it with positive progress-making for the family as a whole.
We believe in early intervention to prevent those who need help with parenting from having their children taken away from them. By identifying problems and retraining parents in positive parenting behaviours, we make changes to help keep family units together.
It is our aim to promote positive parenting within the family network, with the hope that the good work we do now with our residents will continue to bring about happiness and stability years down the line.
Nearly 19,000 children received support from children's services in Wales in 2016. That's 3% of all children in Wales.
